UMA started with a simple idea: to create the kind of gallery we wanted to walk into ourselves. We love art that makes us stop. Work with presence, personality and a little nerve – something you feel before you necessarily know why.
That instinct guides what we show at UMA. We’re not looking for art that needs a long explanation to become interesting. We look for work that can hold its own – on a gallery wall and, eventually, in someone’s home.
UMA was founded by artist Andreas Dienert and editor Cecilia Lindvall. For us, a gallery should feel personal. We care about the art, but also about what happens around it – the conversations, the people, the homes it eventually becomes part of, and the relationships that can grow from a single painting.
We work with artists whose work we believe in and collectors looking for something they genuinely want to live with. We’re interested in long-term relationships rather than quick transactions, and we believe buying art should feel exciting, intuitive and human.
Andreas is an artist himself, which naturally shapes the way UMA works.
His studio is just upstairs in the gallery, giving visitors a rare glimpse into the artist’s process and the place where the paintings begin.
You'll find us at Hornsgatan 36A in Stockholm.
